The White House is planning a possible summit between President Donald Trump and Russian President Vladimir Putin, The Wall Street Journal reported Friday.

U.S. Ambassador to Russia Jon Huntsman has been in Washington to help arrange a meeting between the two leaders, according to an unnamed senior administration official. The possible meeting is in the early stages of planning, and a date and location are yet to be determined.

"This has been an ongoing project of Ambassador Huntsman, stretching back months, of getting a formal meeting between Putin and Trump," the official said.

Topics for discussion could include Syria, Ukraine and nuclear-arms control, the article explained. Trump and Putin already met twice in 2017 at the Group of 20 Summit in Hamburg and a November summit in Vietnam.

The official said the Russia summit would "be focused on specifics not grand bargaining," adding, "Those things need to be negotiated."

While officials are currently working on the planned summit this month between Trump and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov was in Pyongyang for a visit. Lavrov relayed Putin's "warmest regards and best wishes" for Kim's "big endeavors" on the Korean Peninsula.
