Most American voters think President Donald Trump is racist, according to the most recent Quinnipiac University National Poll released on Tuesday.
Quinnipiac surveyed over 1,000 voters from July 25-28, during which time Trump tweeted multiple attacks against notable African-American public figures like Rep. Elijah Cummings, D-Md., and Rev. Al Sharpton, as well as the largely black city of Baltimore. The results:
- 51% said Trump is racist, 45% said he is not.
- 46% of white voters said Trump is racist, 50% of white voters said Trump is not.
- 80% of black voters said Trump is racist, 11% said he's not.
- 55% of Hispanic voters said Trump is racist, 44% said he is not.
- 55% of men said Trump is racist, 41% said he's not.
- 59% of women said Trump is racist, 36% said he is not.
"While half of voters think President Donald Trump is racist, religion shows an even bigger divide. Only 21% of white Evangelicals believe the president is racist. Compare that to 63% of voters who don't affiliate with any organized religion," said Mary Snow, Quinnipiac polling analyst.
The majority of voters, 60% to 32%, said Congress should not begin impeachment proceedings against Trump, with Democrats and black voters being the only demographics with a majority supporting impeachment.
"When it comes to the Mueller hearings, minds were not changed on impeachment or that President Trump was cleared of wrongdoing," Snow added.
