Rachel Dolezal's Parents: Daughter Has 'Some Very Serious Issues'

By    |   Monday, 15 June 2015 10:26 PM EDT

Lawrence and Ruthanne Dolezal, the parents of former Spokane, Washington NAACP chapter president Rachel Dolezal, say their daughter has "some very serious issues."

Dolezal resigned her position at the NAACP chapter on Monday following revelations over the weekend that, although she has been claiming to be biracial for years, even appearing in photographs with a black man she claims to be her father, she actually is white.

Appearing Monday on Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File," Dolezal's parents said none of their daughter's stories about being raised in a teepee and hunting with a bow and arrow are true.

Story continues below video.

Ruthanne Dolezal said they first learned Rachel was claiming to be black when the saw a newspaper story about her in 2007. She has since ordered her parents not to visit her, they said.

The Dolezals do have biracial adopted children. They have faced criticism for telling the truth about their daughter's background from some who say they did it as a distraction because one of their sons is being investigated on sexual assault allegations.

Her mother said the only reason they spoke to the press is because they were contacted after their daughter was being investigated after making claims she received racists threats in the mail. The post office said the envelope containing the threats did not have postage and that whoever placed them in the post office box had a key.

Meanwhile, NBC announced Monday that Dolezal herself will grant her first interview since resigning on Monday's "Today" show, Variety reports. After talking to Matt Lauer on "Today," she will give interviews to Savannah Guthrie on "NBC Nightly News" and Melissa Harris-Perry for MSNBC and NBCBLK.
