Rep. Rashida Tlaib tweeted over the weekend viewers should boycott Bill Maher’s HBO show after the comedian harshly criticized the international boycott movement against Israel.

“I am tired of folks discrediting a form of speech that is centered on equality and freedom,” the Michigan Democrat wrote. “This is exactly how they tried to discredit & stop the boycott to stand up against the apartheid in S. Africa. It didn't work then and it won't now.”

Israel barred Tlaib and Rep. Ilhan Omar from entering the country due to their support for the Boycott, Divestment and Sanctions organization, the New York Post reported.

Israel later gave permission to Tlaib to enter Israel, as long as she did not promote BDS during her visit, after she asked that she be able to see her 90-year-old grandmother in the West Bank.

However, the congresswoman decided not to make the trip due to what she called the “oppressive conditions” imposed by Israel.

Maher bashed the BDS movement on HBO’s “Real Time” on Friday as a “bulls**** purity test by people who want to appear woke but actually slept through history class,” according to The Hill.

He added that “It’s predicated on this notion, I think — it’s very shallow thinking — that the Jews in Israel, mostly white, and the Palestinians are browner, so they must be innocent and correct, and the Jews must be wrong.”
