Nearly six in 10 voters support former President Donald Trump's recent visit to Arlington National Cemetery and a majority say Vice President Kamala Harris bears responsibility for 13 service members' deaths during the military withdrawal from Afghanistan, Rasmussen Reports found.
Voters were asked whether it was appropriate for Trump to attend the Arlington service that honored 13 U.S. troops killed in a Kabul airport suicide bombing attack in August 2021.
Rasmussen Reports found that 59% of likely voters say it was appropriate for Trump to attend the service. Only 30% say the former president's attendance at the Arlington service was inappropriate. Another 12% are not sure.
In a party breakdown of respondents, 85% of Republicans, 35% of Democrats and 57% of unaffiliated voters say it was appropriate for Trump to attend the service at Arlington.
Voters also were asked whether they agreed or disagreed with the statement: Vice President Harris bears responsibility for the deaths of [U.S. troops killed in the terrorist attack]. Her administration's catastrophic mishandling of the Afghanistan withdrawal directly led to the murder of 13 service members?"
Family members of troops killed in the Afghanistan attack issued the statement in response to criticism from Harris.
The Rasmussen Reports results show 54% of voters say they agree with that statement, including 38% who strongly agree.
Another 38% disagree, including 28% who strongly disagree. Another 9% say they're not sure.
In a party breakdown of respondents, 81% of Republicans, 24% of Democrats and 58% of unaffiliated voters at least somewhat agree with the statement from family members of troops killed in the Afghanistan attack that Harris "bears responsibility" for their deaths.
By race, 58% of whites, 48% of Blacks, 70% of Hispanics and 66% of other minorities say it was appropriate for Trump to attend the service at Arlington. Black voters are least likely to say they agree with the quote about Harris' responsibility for the death of service members in the Afghanistan attack.
More men (62%) than women (55%) say Trump's Arlington National Cemetery visit was appropriate.
The Rasmussen Reports survey was conducted by telephone and online Sept. 2-4 among 1,070 likely voters. The margin of sampling error is plus/minus 3 percentage points with a 95% level of confidence.
