Rasmussen: Voters' Opinion of Boehner Plummets

By    |   Tuesday, 20 August 2013 03:42 PM EDT

House Speaker John Boehner has his worst favorability rating since he first took the post in 2011, although his fellow congressional leaders don't do much better, a new survey released Tuesday finds.

According to Rasmussen Reports, 53 percent of likely voters have an unfavorable view of the Ohio Republican with only 30 percent saying they have a favorable impression of the Speaker.

The survey of 1,000 likely voters taken August 15-16, gives Boehner his lowest favorability rating since August 2010, when, as House minority leader he had a 24 percent favorability rating with 37 percent who did not view him in a favorable light.

Nancy Pelosi, the California Democrat who is now minority leader has an even worse favorability rating with 56 percent viewing her unfavorably and 13 percent who view her favorably. Forty-four percent said they viewed her very unfavorably.

The leaders' counterparts in the Senate also have low favorability numbers. Of those polled, 49 percent say they view Democrat Majority Leader Harry Reid unfavorably, while 46 percent have an unfavorable view of the Republican Minority Leader Mitch McConnell.

When it comes down to party, Republicans have a worse view of their own leaders than Democrats. Fifty-six percent of Republicans said they have a favorable opinion of Boehner, while 60 percent of Democrats have a favorable view of Pelosi.

Still, both House leaders fare better than the leaders in the Senate, where 47 percent of Democrats view Reid favorably, and only 44 percent of Republicans have a favorable opinion of the Kentucky Republican.
