The Department of Health and Human Services is reviewing refugee operations and examining the leadership of Scott Lloyd, director of Office of Refugee Resettlement, Politico is reporting.
The review comes as President Donald Trump has called for a crackdown along the U.S. Mexico border.
The review is being conducted by Lynn Johnson, assistant secretary for family support, and is being called a “top to bottom” examination of the entire program, according to Politico.
Johnson has been directed by HHS Secretary Alex Azar to review and make changes at the refugee office, the website said.
For her part, Johnson said she is still learning after just a little more than a month on the job. She said she had not made any decisions concerning personnel, including Lloyd.
“I’ll handle personnel issues as appropriate when they come up and when I see something," Johnson said. "But I don’t see anything yet. I need to be here longer than 35 days.”
Thousands of Central Americans are currently making their way to the U.S. southern border through Mexico.
“We are not allowing them in our country,” Trump said. “We want safety.”
