Rep. Al Green, D-Texas, vowed to force a vote to impeach President Donald Trump, The Hill is reporting.
Green cited the race scandals involving Virginia’s Democrat Gov. Ralph Northam and the state’s attorney General Mark Herring, who is also a Democrat.
Green maintained the two have been emboldened “to a great extent because the Trump presidency has sent a message that you can be immune to the consequence of bigotry and power to constitutionally remove you from office.”
"We no longer stare bigotry down; bigotry now stares us down," Green said Thursday night. "Further, an argument that Gov. Ralph Northam and Attorney General Mark Herring should resign will subject us to accusations of political hypocrisy if we refuse to take on a bigoted president."
Green forced floor votes on impeachment twice in the last Congress. Among other things, his articles accused Trump of inciting racial divisions in the country, according to The Hill.
He did not provide any details on when he would force another vote on the issue.
Northam has come under fire for a photo in his 1984 medical school yearbook that showed a person in blackface with a person in a Ku Klux Klan outfit. Herring recently admitted to wearing blackface in college.
