The Rev. Al Sharpton says he forgives Donald Trump's aide who made inflammatory statements, which included a slur aimed at Sharpton's daughter in eight-year-old Facebook posts.

Trump fired campaign adviser Sam Nunberg, who also sent a personal letter to Sharpton, apologizing for the racially-charged comments, The New York Times is reporting.

"Trump did the right thing" in his decision to fire Nunberg, Sharpton told The Times, adding that "the guy did the right thing to admit he was wrong and apologize."

"Unlike others who have had accusations, he at least did not deny the gravity of what he did," Sharpton explained. He added that he also "forgave a guy who stabbed me once in Bensonhurst."

Business Insider reported that Nunberg had made the racially charged statements, which included one instance in August 2007 when he talked about calling Sharpton's daughter a "N—-!"

This isn't the first time that Nunberg worked for Trump and it's not the first time he's been fired by the real estate mogul either. Nunberg was fired after Buzzfeed published a mocking profile of Trump in 2014.

Newsmax Media CEO Christopher Ruddy said that "Sam has played a terrific role in connecting the Trump campaign with the major media and grassroots organizations that have been key to Trump's success. I hope the investigation of this matter shows it is much to do about nothing."
