Richard Ben-Veniste, a former Watergate prosecutor, says Attorney General William Barr gave Americans a "mischaracterization of the conclusion" found in special counsel Robert Mueller's report.

Ben-Veniste made his comments in an interview that aired Tuesday on Hill.TV.

"My interest has been, and continues to be, transparency," he said. "Let the American public be informed. Now look, Mr. Barr could be said, and it has been said by many, attempted to misinform the public about what was in the report.

"What he gave them was a mischaracterization of the conclusions of that report."

He maintained Barr was "banking on the . . . suspicion that most Americans will be too lazy to read the report."

"It certainly doesn't show that the president was entirely cooperative," he said. "It shows that the president refused to testify under oath, [and] refused to sit down for an interview. So, how is that cooperative?"
