President Donald Trump on Thursday said that he will allow Attorney General William Barr to decide whether special counsel Robert Mueller testifies before Congress, CNN reports.

During an unannounced press conference in the Roosevelt Room at the White House on Thursday, Trump was asked whether Mueller should appear before Congress.

"I'm going to leave that up to our very great attorney general,” Trump said. “He'll make a decision on that.”

Over the weekend, the president tweeted that Mueller should not testify.

“After spending more than $35,000,000 over a two year period, interviewing 500 people, using 18 Trump Hating Angry Democrats & 49 FBI Agents - all culminating in a more than 400 page Report showing NO COLLUSION - why would the Democrats in Congress now need Robert Mueller to testify,” Trump wrote in a pair of tweets.

“Are they looking for a redo because they hated seeing the strong NO COLLUSION conclusion? There was no crime, except on the other side (incredibly not covered in the Report), and NO OBSTRUCTION. Bob Mueller should not testify. No redos for the Dems!”
In the news conference, Trump also addressed his son, Donald Trump Jr., being subpoenaed to testify before the Senate about his contacts with Russia during the 2016 presidential campaign.

“My son is a good person,” he said. “My son testified for hours and hours. My son was totally exonerated by Mueller.”

Trump added, without specifying whether he plans to fight the subpoena, “we’ll see what happens. I’m just very surprised.”
