Deputy U.S. Attorney General Rod Rosenstein said he was satisfied with the work of the special counsel in the investigation of Russian efforts to influence the 2016 presidential election.
Rosenstein made the comments Monday in an interview with Maryland NBC affiliate News 4.
"When we conduct criminal investigations … we don't talk about the investigation while they're ongoing. So what the American people will see is only if and when a case is charged. And there are several cases that have been charged to date," Rosenstein said in the interview.
When asked if he was satisfied with the management and administration of the office, he replied, "Yes, that's correct."
"The Office of Special Counsel, as you know, has a degree of autonomy from the Department of Justice. But there is appropriate oversight by the department," Rosenstein added.
Special Counsel Robert Mueller's probe has spent more than $3.2 million since May on the probe, according to Justice Department Tuesday.
The budget is part of the Justice Department's oversight. "And we're accountable for it," Rosenstein said in the NBC affiliate interview.
