Three women who were allegedly sexually harassed by former Fox News CEO Roger Ailes are reportedly in settlement talks with 21st Century Fox, New York Magazine’s Gabriel Sherman reports.
Sherman, who wrote a biography of Ailes in 2014 and has been closely following the case, tweeted that since the statute of limitations for sexual harassment is only three years, others who may have also may have been victims have no legal recourse.
Law Newz reports that it is unknown which women are in the settlement talks, as at least half a dozen others have come forward to make complaints against Ailes, including Andrea Tantaros, who filed a harassment lawsuit last week and said Fox News was a "sex fueled, playboy mansion-like cult."
Sherman, who has interviewed 20 women alleging sexual harassment by Ailes, told The Guardian that he found their testimonies very similar. "
"That's one of the reasons I found these stories so credible," he said. "These are women who live all over the country and the time period spans from the 1960s to the mid-2000s and what’s remarkable over that 40- to 50-year period is that the pattern is exactly the same."
Despite the efforts made to eradicate sexual harassment, including that it has been illegal in the U.S. for 30 years, The New York Times reports that it makes up a large part of the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission’s work.
However, since it is often a case of the victim’s word against the accused, most cases don’t end in favor of the plaintiff.
