Roger Stone, a longtime friend and ally of President Donald Trump who was sentenced to 40 months in prison last week for lying to Congress, tampering with a witness and obstructing the House investigation into whether the Trump campaign coordinated with Russia to tip the 2016 election, on Sunday said his only fear in life is “not being right with God.”
"I feel pretty good because I've taken Jesus Christ as my personal savior," Stone said during an appearance on “Axios on HBO.”
"And it's given me enormous strength and solace, because he knows what's in my heart."
Stone during his interview refused to answer questions related to his criminal case because of a court-imposed gag order but said he’s “proud” of his support for Trump.
"I'm not going to discuss anything that pertains to this case and that could be inferred to pertain to the case," Stone said in response to Axios co-founder and executive editor Mike Allen's questions. "This is going to be a very boring interview."
Stone, when asked about his work for Trump on his 2016 presidential campaign, said he was happy about his support for the president.
"One does not have to be on a campaign staff in order to effectuate the electoral outcome of an election in America given the modern miracle of social media and the ability to communicate," he said. "I'm proud of my support for the president. I did as much as I possibly could on my own to get him elected."
