Mitt Romney currently has a 49 to 45 percent edge over President Barack Obama among the highly sought middle-income voters — those with annual household incomes between $36,000 and $89,000, a new
Gallup survey found.
Romney is also winning among more affluent voters, with Obama winning only among lower-income brackets.
The results are based more than 9,000 interviews with registered voters conducted between May 14 and June 3.
Obama and Romney remain tied at 46 percent among all registered voters.
Romney's edge among middle-income voters has been between four and seven points, and among upper-income voters, between four and six points since Gallup began tracking the general electon April 11.
Romney does especially well among middle-income independent voters, who prefer him over Obama by an eight-point margin, 48 to 40 percent. Obama leads among lower-income independents, and the two are tied among upper-income independents.
