Republican presidential candidate Ron DeSantis distanced himself from a memo regarding his debate strategy that was leaked last week from a political action committee supporting his campaign.
"On the memo, it's not mine. I haven't read it. It's just something that we have and put off to the side," the Florida governor told Fox News on Saturday.
The memo, from Never Back Down PAC, suggested that during the debate, DeSantis should defend former President Donald Trump, who has said he will not be in attendance. It also tells DeSantis to both "attack Joe Biden and the media" multiple times and to "take a sledgehammer" to rival Vivek Ramaswamy, who has been surging in recent polling. Some polling has shown Ramaswamy either tied or ahead of DeSantis.
DeSantis' campaign denied knowledge of the memo when it was leaked last week, saying, "This was not a campaign memo, and we were not aware of it prior to the article. We are well accustomed to the attacks from all sides as the media and other candidates realize Ron DeSantis is the strongest candidate best positioned to take down Joe Biden."
