The left is ramping up talks of impeaching President Barack Obama even though Republicans have said it's not on their agenda, GOP strategist Karl Rove wrote in a commentary in
The Wall Street Journal.
Impeachment talk helps fundraising efforts and "fattens Democratic bank accounts," Rove wrote. It also " motivates a lethargic Democratic base, worn-out and embarrassed by Mr. Obama's incompetence and lack of leadership," he wrote.

Rove said Democrats who parrot the impeachment narrative include first lady Michelle Obama; White House Communications Director Dan Pfeiffer; Democratic National Committee Chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz; White House press secretary Josh Earnest; House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi; and Democratic Congressional Committee Chairman Steve Israel.
"All this is complete and utter nonsense," Rove wrote, saying that House Speaker John Boehner has reiterated that the House has no current or future plans to impeach the president.
Democrats also know that the threat of impeachment is damaging to the GOP with critical independent voters, a group that disapproves of Obama's performance and favors Republicans by an 11-point margin but opposes impeachment, Rove says.
Impeachment is also a diversion tactic, Rove said.
"Every moment spent discussing impeachment is a moment not spent discussing issues that hurt Democrats, such as Obamacare, the weak recovery, the border crisis, the nation's growing debt and the world's increasingly dangerous condition," he wrote.
