Sen. Elizabeth Warren's numbers are growing while former Vice President Joe Biden's are remaining the same, a new Fox News poll shows, and that is building the stage for an "interesting dichotomy" what will keep showing up between younger Democrats who favor the senator and older ones who favor Biden, political consultant Karl Rove said Friday.
"Since March, Biden has been stable, at 31% in March and 31% today," Rove, the former deputy Chief of Staff under President George W. Bush, told Fox News' "America's Newsroom." "The real movement is the movement for Elizabeth Warren. She is up to 20%, has gone up 16 points, at the expense of Bernie Sanders who has dropped 13 (points)."
That makes it clear Warren is taking points directly away from Sanders, said Rove, and even while Biden's numbers aren't growing they're not dropping either.
He warned, though, that national polls don't mean as much as the polls that are taking place in early primary states like Iowa, New Hampshire, South Carolina, and Nevada.
"Even those polls are less important than what is happening on the ground in Iowa, in terms of the organization of the candidates," said Rove. "Remember, Hillary Clinton was way ahead of Barack Obama leading the polls and not only the national polls but the polls in Iowa and built a strong organization."
However, Obama pulled ahead after the end of 2007 while speaking at the Iowa Jefferson-Jackson Day Dinner, said Rove, warning that watchers must be "cautious" at this point.
Meanwhile, Trump came in behind the four Democratic front runners, Biden, Sanders, Warren and Sen. Kamala Harris, but Rove pointed out that Trump has been an underdog before and he'll have "plenty of material" to use to fight the Democrats.
Meanwhile, the more liberal a candidate Trump ends up fighting, the better his chances for reelection will be, said Rove.
"We've seen a rapid change in people's attitudes toward Medicare for all," said Rove. "The president is the underdog but the question is how much material is he going to be able to work within terms of the value of the public. "
