Former Alabama Senate candidate Roy Moore has filed a lawsuit against comedian Sacha Baron Cohen over his appearance on Showtime’s “Who is America?” The Washington Examiner reports.
Moore, the former Chief Justice of the Alabama Supreme Court, and his wife are suing Cohen, Showtime, and its parent company the CBS Corporation over a segment of the show in which Moore claims Cohen, "falsely painted, portrayed, mocked and with malice defamed Judge Moore as a sex offender, which he is not."
During his campaign for Senate, Moore was accused by multiple women of sexual misconduct, including one allegation that he sexually assaulted a 14-year-old girl when he was in his 30s in 1979.
“This false and fraudulent portrayal and mocking of Judge Moore as a sex offender, on national and international television, which was widely broadcast in this district on national television and worldwide, has severely harmed Judge Moore’s reputation and caused him, Mrs. Moore, and his entire family severe emotional distress, as well as caused and will cause Plaintiffs financial damage,” reads the lawsuit, according to Variety.
The Moores are being represented by Larry Klayman, founder of Judicial Watch and Freedom Watch.
