Florida Sen. Marco Rubio, Texas Sen. Ted Cruz, and Utah Sen. Mike Lee sent GOP leaders a letter supporting efforts to repeal Obamacare, according to a press release on Rubio's website.
The letter also called for a path to balance the budget within 10 years.
In the letter, the senators wrote: "The American people have given Republicans an historic opportunity to repeal Obamacare. They have delivered majorities to both chambers of Congress and elected a Republican President who has promised to make this a priority from day one. Therefore we write to support your efforts to pass a bill repealing Obamacare within the first few weeks of the 115th Congress."
The senators focused on the budget resolution for fiscal year 2017, asking that it contain "transparent spending and revenue numbers and include all extant enforcement tools." That will help set up a plan to balance the budget, they wrote.
"It is our belief that the 2017 budget resolution must include reconciliation instructions that enable Congress to quickly consider legislation that repeals at least as much of Obamacare as HR3762, which President [Barack] Obama vetoed in December 2015. Indeed, we should try to use the reconciliation process to repeal as many provisions of Obamacare as possible, especially the insurance mandates that are driving up health insurance costs for millions of Americans."
The letter added a note seeking the leaders' commitment to passing a 2018 budget resolution that could balance the budget in 10 years "without the use of budgetary gimmicks or tax increases."
"We look forward to working with you this Congress and to delivering on the mandate given to us by the American people to repeal Obamacare and reform the status quo in Washington," the senators wrote.
