After short-lived praise for special counsel Robert Mueller's "honest" investigation, attorney Rudy Giuliani returned to criticizing it for saying it did not "exonerate" President Donald Trump, calling it "a cheap shot."
"They don't have to exonerate him; you've got to prove he's guilty — even for impeachment," Giuliani told CNN's "Cuomo Primetime." "This is a cheap shot.
"This is a cheap shot. For a prosecutor, this is unprofessional."
Giuliani argues under U.S. law's presumption of innocence, the fact his client is not charged is exoneration. Also, he says, prosecutors should give an up or down recommendation to move forward or drop the case, not chime in with a caveat on exoneration.
"The fact that he couldn't find evidence is a testament to the fact that he is an honest man," Giuliani had told Fox News' "Fox & Friends" earlier Monday.
Giuliani pointed to Mueller's staff of people "who hate" the president.
"You think this is objective?" Giuliani asked anchor Chris Cuomo about the exoneration caveat in Mueller's final report. "It's not objective. It's a cheap shot."
