Russia has tested a new cruise missile the United States cannot defend against 12 times and the weapons system could be ready by 2020, according to a new report.

CNBC cited a source familiar with U.S. intelligence reports as saying the missile recently struck a target 800 miles away during a test. The network said the reports point to a dozen tests undertaken from a MiG-31 fighter jet.

The Russians are also trying to launch the missile from one of its strategic bombers.

The weapons system is called "Kinzhal," which translates to "dagger."

Russia released video from a test of the new cruise missile in March, saying, "The hypersonic missile confirmed its technical operational performance and timing data of the Kinzhal missile system."

It's been reported that the missile can fly up to 10 times the speed of sound and has a range of 1,200 miles.

President Donald Trump is slated to meet with Russian President Vladimir Putin Monday in Helsinki.
