The Kremlin denies Donald Trump's one-time boast that he has relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin.
"President Putin has never had any contact with Trump, never spoken to him, including by telephone," Kremlin spokesperson Dmitry Peskov told NBC's Hallie Jackson.
She shared the discussion in a tweet:
Trump staged his Miss Universe show in Moscow three years ago and told MSNBC at the time: "I do have a relationship [with Putin] and I can tell you that he's very interested in what we're doing here today."
But last week, Trump insisted he doesn't know and has never met Russian leader.
Trump has been under fire over his supposed connection to Putin in the wake of charges that Russia was behind the hacking of Democratic National Committee computers.
Hackers leaked emails that showed Democratic Party officials apparently trying to destroy Sen. Bernie Sander's presidential bid in favor of Hillary Clinton. Some pundits have said the leaks were part of a plot by Russia to influence the presidential election.
Peskov denies any interference.
"Regretfully, Russia-bashing is becoming a habit in American elections," he told NBC News.
