Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., has surged into a statistical tie with former Vice President Joe Biden in the race for the Democratic nomination for president, according to a national poll released by YouGov on Wednesday.

Biden was supported by 21% of those surveyed, while Warren was backed by 20%, which was well within the margin of error.

Coming in third in the national polling was Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., at 16%, while Sen. Kamala Harris, D-Calif., rounded out the top four at 8%.

No other candidate registered more than 5% nationally in the crowded Democratic field.

These results showed a sharp turnaround from the previous survey last week, when Biden led at 22%, Warren had only 16%, and Sanders 13%. Harris also clocked in at 8% support in the previous poll.

Mediaite pointed out, although national surveys give a broad indication of support for each candidate across states, these polls are less important at this stage than specific surveys conducted in swing states.

This is because each primary contest is an independent race to win the delegates from that state.

The poll was conducted Aug. 10-13, 2019 among 1,500 respondents. The margin of error was 3 percentage points among registered voters.
