Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, (D-N.Y.) and Sen. Bernie Sanders (I-Vt.) Saturday called for nationwide rallies to take place on Feb. 25 to oppose Republicans' efforts to repeal and replace Obamacare.

"The overwhelming majority of Americans, regardless of political persuasion, understand that we have to go forward on healthcare, not backwards," Schumer and Sanders wrote in a letter, reports The Hill. "We are encouraging Democratic senators to lead rallies in their states. This is not a Democratic issue, a Republican issue or an Independent issue."

In January, Republican lawmakers passed a budget resolution as a first step toward an Obamacare repeal. Schumer and Sanders, in their Saturday letter, encouraged their colleagues to reach a Sanders aide for help organizing rallies.

Across the country, Republican lawmakers are already facing hostile crowds of constituents, who are either showing up at their town hall meetings or at their offices themselves to protest calls to repeal Obamacare, saying they fear there will be no replacement plans offered.
