Saudi Arabia views Saturday's attack on one of its key oil facilities as "their 9/11," a U.S. official said.

Brian Hook, who serves as the State Department's special representative for Iran, met with several congressional staffers Monday afternoon about the attack, which the U.S. blames on Iran. According to The Washington Post, Hook indicated the Saudis are taking the attacks extremely seriously and likened them to the September 11, 2001 terror attacks on the U.S.

The phone meeting took place between Hook and staff members of the Homeland Security subcommittees. The comparison to 9/11 was notable because 15 of the 19 hijackers who deliberately crashed four planes that day were Saudi nationals.

Neither the Saudis, Americans, or anyone else has yet to respond to the attack on the Abqaiq facility, the largest oil processing facility in the world.
