Both Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer and House Judiciary Committee chairman Rep. Jerry Nadler will lose in primaries to more progressive members of their party due to their handling of the impeachment process, President Donald Trump predicted on Monday.
"Because of how badly they did with the Impeachment Hoax, AOC will primary Cryin' Chuck Schumer, and win, and Jerry Nadler has a good chance of losing to his far left primary opponent!" Trump wrote on Twitter. "It is all getting quite interesting. Pelosi will lose the House, AGAIN! My poll numbers great."
Schumer is in the middle of a six year-term and won't have to run for election again until 2022, Politico noted. Although Trump was not removed from office by the Senate, Schumer helped make sure that no Democrat broke ranks with the party and thus denied the president a bipartisan acquittal.
Nicknamed AOC, Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, D-N.Y., took office in 2019. It's not clear whether she plans to run for the Senate in 2022.
Nadler, who was one of the House managers prosecuting the case against the president after being the head of the committee that approved the two articles of impeachment, faces reelection in November along with all other House members.
There are a number of Democrats running against Nadler in the party primary for his seat.
