Scooter Libby on Friday told Fox News that he is "pleased" that his innocence "has been recognized."
The former chief of staff to former Vice President Dick Cheney made the brief statement to Fox News via a phone call after the announcement of his pardon from President Donald Trump.
Libby was convicted of perjury in 2007 over the Valerie Plume affair, the former CIA agent whose name was leaked to the press by then deputy secretary of state Richard Armitage.
One of Libby's lawyers, Victoria Toensing, is the wife of attorney Joseph diGenova, who was hired by Trump to become part of his legal team but then ultimately couldn't take the position due to a conflict of interest.
"Our law firm, diGenova & Toensing, was honored to represent Lewis (Scooter) Libby to request a pardon for the injustice inflicted on him and his family by Special Counsel Patrick Fitzgerald and then-Deputy Attorney General James Comey," Toensing said in a statement Friday, Fox News reported.
Former President George W. Bush commuted Libby's prison sentence in 2007.
