Former White House Press Secretary Sean Spicer said he joined the syndicated news magazine show “Extra” to give viewers a different look at the people they see every day on cable news channels.
Spicer, who signed a contract to work as a special correspondent for the show, explained his decision in an interview with The Hollywood Reporter on Wednesday.
His first interview was with Secretary of State Mike Pompeo and his wife. Susan. He has also interviewed counselor to the president Kellyanne Conway and her children, along with current press secretary Sarah Sanders and her husband, Bryan.
“Obviously, we started in my wheelhouse of Republicans, but we hope to make this bipartisan and to offer people an opportunity and a platform to give people a better understanding of who they are as people," Spicer said.
"This is the personal, not the politics, not the policy. The idea is to give people a different angle on some of the people they see on the cable news channels every day."
He said he jumped at the idea at joining the show.
"When they pitched this to me, I said, 'Yeah, I love the idea.’”
And he told the New York Post’s Page Six: “It’s very fun, it’s very light. It’s just an opportunity, as politics and pop culture have intersected — it gives people a behind-the-scenes look at what their personal lives are like…“
