Spicer Mocks Himself During Emmy Appearance, But Not Everyone Is Laughing

(The Washington Post)

Former White House press secretary Sean Spicer poked fun at himself during the Emmy broadcast on Sunday, but not everyone appreciated his humor, The Washington Post noted.

Spicer appeared on stage behind a podium as host Steve Colbert talked about the size of the audience for the broadcast.

"This will be the largest audience to witness an Emmy's, period, both in-person and around the world," Spicer said mocking the phrase he used to describe the crowd at President Donald Trump's inauguration.

"It's an honor," Spicer said, according to The Hollywood Reporter, while discussing his appearance. "I have a lot of respect for folks who do what they do in film and on television, so it's a real honor to be invited."

His appearance had been a closely guarded secret. And reaction to his appearance was quick in coming.

Actress Melissa McCarthy, who often lampooned Spicer on "Saturday Night Life" appeared in shock when Spicer came on stage.

Others took to Twitter to note their reaction:
