Secret Service Officer Arrested in Washington

By    |   Friday, 10 April 2015 02:43 PM EDT

A Secret Service officer was arrested by police in Washington on Friday, according to media reports.

The Uniformed Division officer is to be charged with one misdemeanor count for destruction of property, an unnamed law enforcement source tells CNN. A spokesman for the Secret Service confirmed the arrest.

The Secret Service has placed the officer on administrative leave and Secret Service Director Joseph Clancy has suspended the officer's security clearance.

The officer who was arrested was working in the Foreign Missions Branch of the federal law enforcement agency, and is under investigation for professional responsibility, NBC News is reporting.

He was off-duty when the alleged incident took place. However, Secret Service spokesman Brian Leary would not provide any details about the allegations.

This is another incident in the litany of problems facing the Secret Service in recent years.

Secret Service supervisor Xavier Morales was put on leave earlier this week for allegedly making sexual advances toward a female co-worker while at an off-site work party.

White House surveillance tapes revealed two Secret Service supervisors who were apparently driving drunk in early March. However, the tapes were allegedly destroyed. The incident is currently under investigation by Congress.
