Sen. Michael Bennet, D-Colo., is now cancer-free after having surgery over the weekend, The Hill is reporting.

“Last weekend, Michael underwent surgery and is recovering at his home in Colorado,” Bennet spokeswoman Courtney Gidner said. “His doctors report the surgery was completely successful and he requires no further treatment.”

Bennet had been planning to run for president before being diagnosed with prostate cancer. But the latest diagnosis appears to clear the way for him to enter the race.

“I’m 54,” Bennet said before the surgery. “That’s relatively young. It seemed to make sense to have the prostate removed … If I’m not cancer free, then I’d have to make another decision.”
