It's unlikely that LeBron James or Isaiah Thomas are going to lose any sleep over it, but yes, Sen. Ted Cruz is gearing up to shoot some hoops.
The Texas Republican on Thursday challenged Jimmy Kimmel to go one-to-one in basketball for charity – and ABC's late-night man said Thursday night that he's in.
And from the looks of things, it may be a contest of more insults than slam dunks and swishes as the two dribble down the court.
"You really want to play basketball against a talk show host? You already lost an election to a reality show host — isn't that enough?" Kimmel quipped on his "Jimmy Kimmel Live" primetime special before Game 1 of the 2018 NBA Finals.
Kimmel added that when he got Cruz's dare, "I immediately went online and Googled 'How to guard a blobfish."'
A date for the match hasn't been set, but Kimmel had a suggestion.
"Maybe we should do this the Monday before midterms — it'd be fun to see him lose twice in one week, right?" he said, referring to Cruz's bid for reelection. The loser will give $5,000 to the non-political charity of their choice.
