The parents of a slain Democratic National Committee staffer are asking for the public's help in finding the killer who mysteriously gunned down their son in a northwest Washington, D.C., neighborhood last July.
Seth Rich, 27, was killed walking home July 10 – violence that grabbed national headlines the next month when transparency advocate WikiLeaks offered $20,000 for information leading to a conviction of the killer, The Hill reported.
The offer came more than two weeks after WikiLeaks released thousands of internal emails appearing to show the DNC seemingly helped undermine Sen. Bernie Sanders's presidential campaign – forcing DNC chairwoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz to resign, The Hill noted.
Investigators initially speculated Rich was killed in a failed robbery attempt; nothing was stolen and no witnesses have come forward claiming to have seen the attack.
"Seth believed, one, that America is absolutely great and, two, what makes America great is its people," said Rich's mother, Mary Ann, at a Monday news conference, ABC News affiliate WJLA reported.
"And he believed any problem we ever had, if we would worked together as equal human beings, we could solve our problems."
The mom added that interim DNC head Donna Brazile "came down, and that’s Seth’s boss, three levels ahead of Seth, I don’t know of any boss three levels that comes down to help."
"This is people coming together to solve a problem," she said.
Rich's father, Joel, also urged people to step forward "who know what was going or who may know somebody – we need help from whoever can give the police some more information on what might have happened," the affiliate reported.
