The Orthodox Jewish commentator and writer who calls himself "America's Rabbi" is chastising longtime "soul-friend" Sen. Corey Booker for
backing the nuclear deal with Iran, calling the rationale "riddled with logical inconsistencies."
In an opinion piece for the
Huffington Post, Rabbi Shmuley Boteach says the New Jersey Democrat's support is "stupefying."
"How on earth could he participate in making Iran's nuclear program kosher amid their never-ending pledge to carry out a second holocaust?" Boteach writes.
"[I] remind him about the famous and prophetic words of Elie Wiesel, whom I had asked Cory to meet with to discuss this deal, 'We have learned to trust the threats of our enemies more than the promises of our friends.'"
Boteach decries that Booker's support "never even once condemns the Iranian promise to exterminate the Jews of Israel" or tries to "distance himself from a deal which he admits will legitimize a genocidal regime."
"Indeed, he acknowledges Iran's 'determination to destroy the United States and our ally Israel,'" Boteach writes. "How then can he vote for a deal that gives Iran the means by which to achieve this evil objective in just 10-15 years? His statement of support is riddled with logical inconsistencies…"
He also suggests Booker is "admitting that the deal is worthless because the Iranians are liars and cheats."
In the end, Boteach argues, Booker's support simply represents a "troubling and tragic choice."
