A man was arrested at Singapore airport after he purchased a plane ticket just so he could walk with his wife to the gate and see her off, the Independent reported.

It is against the law in Singapore to buy a ticket you don’t intend to use for the purpose of gaining access to gate-side areas of the terminal.

Anyone doing so can be prosecuted under Singapore's Infrastructure Protection Act and fined up to $14,300 or imprisoned for up to two years, according to CNN. Thirty-three people have been arrested for this violation so far this year.

To emphasize the point, Singapore police shared a picture on Facebook of a sign saying, “Warning: It is an arrestable offence to enter the transit area if you do not intend to travel, even if you have a boarding pass.”

It goes on to explain that the transit areas are “Protected Places,” and that travelers who enter them with a boarding pass “should only be there for the purpose of traveling to their next destinations.”

Ever since the new Jewel terminal opened at Singapore's Changi airport in April, it has become a major attraction for its 40-meter waterfall, the largest indoor one in the world; a 14,000-square-meter Canopy Park, complete with a suspension bridge, topiary and mazes; and one of Asia's largest indoor gardens with 3,000 trees and 60,000 shrubs. It also has an on-site butterfly dome, cactus garden and four-story slide.
