Snoop Dogg Switches Tracks, Now a Trump Admirer

By    |   Sunday, 28 January 2024 02:39 PM EST

Snoop Dogg is singing a different tune — going from mad to mellow when it comes to Donald Trump.

In an unexpected U-turn, the rapper — whose pre-fame name was Calvin Broadus Jr. — told U.K. news outlet The Times he's got “nothing but love and respect” for the former president he once cursed.

“Donald Trump? He ain’t done nothing wrong to me. He has done only great things for me,” the rapper said in the interview, the Independent reported

He specifically brought up the time Trump “pardoned Michael Harris” — co-founder of Snoop’s first label, Death Row, who was jailed on drug offenses. “So I have nothing but love and respect for Donald Trump,” he declared.

In past comments, Snoop Dogg has ripped Trump, including during a 2017 row over a music video for “Lavender.”

The video showed the rapper aiming a gun at a clown dressed like Trump, which he pulled to reveal a red flag with the word “BANG” written on it. Trump’s then-lawyer said he was “shocked” and demanded an apology, while Trump suggested Snoop ought to have been arrested.

"Can you imagine what the outcry would be if @SnoopDogg, failing career and all, had aimed and fired the gun at President Obama? Jail time!" Trump wrote on Twitter in October 2017.

Later that year, Snoop released a song titled “Make America Crip Again” — a riff on Trump’s trademark campaign slogan “Make America Great Again.”

“The president said he wants to make America great again. F*** that s***, we’re going to make America crip again,” the rapper sang.

“Certain people feel like we should make America ‘great again,’ but that time they’re referring to always takes me back to separation and segregation, so I’d rather make America crip again,” he said in a separate post, the Independent reported.

“What I mean by that is, in my lifetime, that’s when young Black men in impoverished areas organized to help their communities and to take care of their own because society basically left them for dead.”

In 2019, another scathing video was released rejecting Trump over a government shutdown.

"So, I'm saying that to say this: When sh** get back on, and y'all get y'all jobs back, and it's time to vote," Snoop said before tilting his head forward to reveal a global warming winter hat that read: "Make America Snow Again," "Don't vote for that n***er, please don’t.”
