Billionaire Democrat donor George Soros and his son donated $10,000 to the PAC of anti-Israel Rep. Pramila Jayapal, D-Wash., according to Federal Election Commission filings.
George Soros and Alex Soros each wired $5,000 to the Build Our Movement Political Action Committee supporting Jayapal, a member of the anti-Israel progressive group dubbed "the Squad," and who months earlier called Israel a "racist state."
Days after the donations, Jayapal was under fire again for her remarks on CNN calling for "balanced" outrage and refusing to dabble in a "hierarchy of oppressions" when asked about the sexual atrocities committed by Hamas on women and children on Oct. 7 in Israel.
Jayapal, the Congressional Progressive Caucus chair, in both cases walked back her remarks.
The Soroses also contributed $6,600 each to Jayapal's re-election campaign on June 29. Then in July, more than 40 rank-and-file House Democrats rebuked Jayapal for calling Israel a "racist state."
"Israel remains the only vibrant, progressive, and inclusive democracy in the region," they wrote. "Arab parties serve in the Knesset, women serve at the highest levels of the military, and the country remains an oasis for LGBTQ+ people in a region hostile toward the community. Pluralism flourishes in Israel," read the letter from 43 House Democrats.
House Democrat leadership, led by Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., released a separate statement saying "Israel is not racist state" without naming or rebuking Jayapal.
