Conspiracy theorists are saying President Donald Trump's call for a military Space Force is further evidence the government is hiding the truth about UFOs and extraterrestrial visitors, and hope the move means the government is moving toward "full disclosure."
The plan is also pitting Trump against the "Deep State," which many in the UFO conspiracy community believe is keeping alien secrets from being released, reports The Washington Times.
"Understand that with the #SpaceForce, the advanced technologies (free energy, antigravity) kept in secret think-tanks within Lockheed, Boeing, & other corporate contractors will now have an avenue to be released publicly," conspiracy theory filmmaker Jordan Sather posted on Twitter after Trump issued the order in June for the Pentagon to begin planning for the new division.
Trump's original announcement came just after The New York Times story reporting the Defense Department had secretly investigated UFOs for at least five years, creating even more buzz among conspiracists.
The Pentagon's top officials oppose the establishment of the new branch, which also is leading people to believe that they do not want the truth to be known.
The Trump administration has said the Space Force would defend the United States' space assets such as satellites and fend off cyber attacks, but the Pentagon wants to keep space operations under the Air Force.
Under law, a president cannot create a military branch alone, but must go through an act of Congress. However, Trump has signed an order recently to establish a Space Command that would oversee operations beyond the atmosphere of the Earth.
