Ted Cruz: Obama Not Forceful Enough on ISIS

By    |   Wednesday, 10 September 2014 11:20 PM EDT

Sen. Ted Cruz says President Barack Obama's speech on fighting the Islamic State (ISIS) did not hit hard enough.

Instead, he said, the speech was more like Obama's old approach to the crisis, which the Texas Republican called "fundamentally unserious."

Cruz appeared on Fox News Channel's "The Kelly File" after Obama delivered his remarks.

The first part of Obama's remarks were devoted to "a defense of the failed Obama-Clinton foreign policy," said Cruz, referring to Obama's former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton.

Obama's leading-from-behind strategy "has led to most of the world being on fire," he said.

The president sought to diminish the threat of ISIS, saying it is primarily a regional threat, Cruz charged.

He suggested Obama should have said ISIS members are radical Islamic terrorists who have declared war on the United States, and "we will respond with overwhelming air force to take them out."
