House Majority Whip Steve Scalise, who was critically injured after a Bernie Sanders supporter opened fire on a congressional baseball practice in 2017, Thursday called for a calm to the blame being passed about concerning the explosive devices that were sent to liberal figures this week.
"I'm very fully supportive of law enforcement, confident they will find out who exactly did this they will figure this out," the Louisiana Republican told Fox News' "Fox and Friends."
"That person should be brought to justice and it should be swift. For now, make sure we're calming down the rhetoric, not pointing fingers."
Scalise said he wants it to be clear that there is no place for such attacks in American politics.
"This is how things go in third-world nations, where people think they can go threaten, bully, intimidate, terrorize people based on their political views," said Scalise. "That is not what our country is about."
He also spoke out about people blaming President Donald Trump's rhetoric sparking the bomb mailings, and said that Americans 'need to calm it down."
"You don't make it personal, you don't resort to attacks," he said. "If you are threatening somebody else, you have pretty much lost the argument already."
He also said he does not blame Bernie Sanders for the gunman who shot him, and he has not let his own wounding change the way he lives his life, because, "if you do, then you win."
