President Donald Trump is setting up his own lawyer to go down over a payment made to porn star Stormy Daniels in 2016, Daniels' attorney alleged Monday.
Shortly after it was reported the office and hotel room of Trump's lawyer Michael Cohen were subjected to an FBI raid, Michael Avenatti told Rolling Stone the president's actions are clear.
"As I predicted last week on CNN and MSNBC, Mr. Cohen has been placed in the crosshairs by Mr. Trump," Avenatti said. "He has been set up to take the fall. An enormous amount of misplaced faith has been placed on his shoulders, and I do not believe he has the mettle to withstand it. If I'm correct, this could end very, very badly for Mr. Trump and others."
The FBI raided Cohen's office at 30 Rockefeller Plaza and a room in which he has been living at the Loews Regency New York on Monday. Taken during the raid, according to reports, were documents and communications regarding the $130,000 payment he made to Daniels shortly before the 2016 election.
Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, claims she had a brief affair with Trump in 2006, a charge Trump denies.
Monday's raid was conducted in tandem with the Russia investigation headed by special counsel Robert Mueller.
