Rep. Lieu Asks If DHS Secretary Nielsen Is 'Grossly Incompetent'

Rep. Ted Lieu, D-Calif., blasted Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen and questioned whether she was "grossly incompetent."

Lieu's remarks came in a Wednesday tweet:

"Last week under questioning by Rep @davidcicilline during House Judiciary hearing, @DHSgov Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen revealed she DID NOT KNOW how many people died under border patrol custody. Is Nielsen (1) grossly incompetent, (2) hiding information, or (3) just doesn't care?"

It was disclosed Wednesday that Nielsen will travel to the U.S. border with Mexico to review her department's care of migrant children. Word of her trip came after an 8-year-old Guatemalan boy died on Christmas Eve after Customs and Border Protection apprehended him.

He was the second young migrant to die in the agency's custody in December.
