President Donald Trump will appear in his first sit-down interview on a Spanish-language television network when he will appear on Telemundo one week before the first Democratic presidential debates.
Trump will speak with Noticias Telemundo anchor José Díaz-Balart in an interview airing Thursday night at 11 p.m. Telemundo notes the interview will be a "new precedent" for the Trump administration, as he'll be speaking with a journalist serving the Latino audience.
The Democratic debates also will appear on Telemundo, along with NBC News and MSNBC, on June 26 and 27.
Trump's Telemundo interview comes after Trump's announcement that Immigration and Customs Enforcement will start increasing deportations of undocumented immigrants next week, and as his administration continues to push for a wall at the Mexican border. His administration has also recently reached a deal with Mexico to increase its enforcement efforts at the nation's southern border. Telemundo, however, did not specify what will be discussed in its interview with the president.
The Pew Research Center projected earlier this year that the 2020 election will be the first time Hispanics will make up just over 13% of eligible voters, making up the largest racial or ethnic minority group, compared to black voters at 12%.
Pew projected that 32 million Hispanics will be eligible to vote in the 2020 election, as compared to 30 million black voters, and 11 million Asians.
