It's not a lock that Gary Johnson will get an opportunity to take the debate stage with Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, but the venues have been instructed to at least prepare for that possibility,
Politico reported.
The Commission on Presidential Debates has instructed the three presidential debate venues in Las Vegas, St. Louis and Long Island, New York, to plan their stages for three people … just in case.
Candidates need to average a 15-share nationally in five selected polls to be invited to the debates; Johnson, the Libertarian candidate, is polling at 8.8 percent on average.
"If someone came in and let's say he was at 14.5 percent and the margin of error in five polls was 3 points, we are going to have to sit down and look at it," Commission co-chair Frank Fahrenkopf told Politico. "But right now that person would not be included."
