Rep. Tim Murphy: Dealing with Ebola Like Dealing with Terrorism

By    |   Sunday, 19 October 2014 01:32 PM EDT

Dealing with the deadly Ebola virus is like dealing with terrorism, says Rep. Tim Murphy, chairman of the House Oversight panel that held a hearing on the Ebola response last week.

"We have to be right 100 percent of the time, and Ebola has to only get in once," Murphy said on "Fox News Sunday."

That line is taken from the oft-repeated warning that terrorists only have to succeed one time to be successful, while America is never allowed one failure in its defense.

Murphy told host Chris Wallace that he is concerned that the Obama administration and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention already have been wrong so many times it is causing the public to panic.

"I don't think these false assurances are working," Murphy said.

The Pennsylvania Republican also said he has heard nothing to change his mind that Obama's appointment of political operative Ron Klain as Ebola czar is a bad move.

Murphy and other Republicans are critical that Klain has no medical background. The White House counters that the CDC and other organizations are handling the crisis from a medical standpoint and that Klain's organizational skills are needed in the post.
