Republican Rep. Tom Price of Georgia says it would be "bipartisan" for Congress to agree to delay the entire healthcare law for a year, saying it is only fair for every American to get the same delay that certain groups have been granted.
"I'm a physician," Price said on "Fox News Sunday." "The last thing that this nation needs is this law that will destroy quality healthcare in this country."
Price, vice chairman of House Budget Committee, told Fox News' Neil Cavuto last week that if a shutdown were the only way to kill Obamacare, "I'm there." On Sunday, Price said it was President Barack Obama himself who is threatening a shutdown, not Republicans.
Multiple unions have called on Congress to fix some of the "unintended consequences" of the Affordable Care Act that will, among other things, tax some of their so-called Cadillac health care plans.
The White House vowed not to give the unions an exemption, "But the White House has always picked winners and losers in this, and that's why they have chosen to delay or waive fully a third of this piece of legislation," Price said.
Waiving Obamacare for everyone, he said, is "the only fair thing to do."
The unions have "finally read the bill and recognize what's in it," Price said. "And they know that what the president said, that is, if you like what you have you can keep it, simply is not true. And they believe they've been lied to."
