Tomi Lahren has lashed out at the trash-talking New York lawyer who was caught on video haranguing restaurant workers because they were speaking Spanish.
"It’s ridiculous. You don’t treat people like that — it’s rude," the fiery blonde conservative told TMZ on Thursday.
In an extraordinary video that has gone viral, Aaron Schlossberg is seen launching an angry rant at a Fresh Kitchen eatery in New York City after overheard employees speaking to customers in Spanish.
"Your staff is speaking Spanish to customers when they should be speaking English," Schlossberg said to a man who appeared to be the manager. "Every person I listen to — he spoke it, he spoke it, she's speaking it. This is America!"
Schlossberg also wondered whether the staffers were documented and threatened to call the Department of Homeland Security’s Immigration and Customs Enforcement.
"So my next call is to ICE to have each one of them kicked out of my country," Schlossberg said. "If they have the balls to come here and live off of my money — I pay for their welfare, I pay for their ability to be here — the least they can do is speak English."
The upsetting scene, which has caused a huge backlash on social media, also sparked the ire of Lahren, whose right-leaning commentary – including tough talk about immigration enforcement -- has made her an overnight star.
"I think you can have a conversation about policy, I think you can believe in assimilation, as I do. And merit-based immigration. But you treat people with respect," Lahren told TMZ. "I would never do that, it’s ridiculous. I treat people with respect."
The incident was captured by Edward Suazo, who shared the video on a Facebook post and explained that his wife and friend were ordering their lunch in Spanish from the waiter when Schlossberg confronted them.
The rant drew heavy criticism for Schlossberg as well as his business, the Law Office of Aaron M. Schlossberg, which has been flooded with one-star reviews on Yelp, according to USA Today.
The New York Times reports that Rep. Adriano Espaillat, a New York Democrat who was born in the Dominican Republic, and Ruben Diaz Jr., the Democratic Bronx borough president, have filed a grievance with the court system over the incident.
