The New York Times published a fictional short story about a plot to assassinate President Donald Trump after it asked novelists to imagine how the investigation by special counsel Robert Mueller would end.
Novelist Zoë Sharp was one of five asked “to conjure possible outcomes.”
Published in the newspaper on Tuesday, Sharp’s 800-word piece was titled: “How It Ends.” It detailed a Russian gunman coming from Moscow with orders to kill the president.
Disguised as a porter in an unnamed Trump hotel, the Russian drew his gun during a presidential visit, but it misfired, Sharp wrote.
But a nearby Secret Service agent, handed him his Glock.
Sharp wrote: “’Here,’ the agent said politely. ‘Use mine…’”
Sharp, in a Twitter account The Daily Caller identified as belonging to her, said she was “honored” to be among those chosen by the newspaper for the assignment.
New York Times Books promoted the short story package on its Twitter account without mentioning any specific story
"One of the biggest stories of our time is the Mueller investigation," it tweeted. "We asked some great fiction writers to imagine how the story ends."
