President-elect Donald Trump's selections for top roles in his upcoming administration would mark the youngest core of Cabinet officials and senior advisers since President George H.W. Bush in 1989, Axios reported Tuesday.
The average age of Trump's picks for vice president, chief of staff, attorney general, and secretaries of State, Treasury, and Defense is 54.1; Bush's same core was 51.5, the youngest in nearly 50 years, according to the report.
Trump's Cabinet picks have yet to be confirmed by the Senate, but Vice President-elect J.D. Vance is 40, while Chief of Staff Susie Wiles is 67, slightly older than recent chiefs of staff, according to the report. Vance will be the third-youngest VP in history, according to the report. Dan Quayle, Bush's vice president, was 41.
Pete Hegseth, 44, if confirmed, would be the youngest Defense secretary since Donald Rumsfeld, 43, in the Ford administration, according to Axios.
Trump's AG nominee, Pam Bondi, is 59; Florida Sen. Marco Rubio (Secretary of State) is 53; and Treasury nominee Scott Bessent is 62.
Trump, 78, is set to be the oldest man sworn in as president. The average age of his top staff to begin his first term was 59.2.
The oldest average age of top advisers in more than three decades belongs to outgoing President Joe Biden at 63.7.
